![]() ![]() The takeaway here is that you can and want to use normal conventional stereo headphones while mixing in Logic Pro binaural mode. When you're ready to stream yours or any Atmos mixes from Apple Music, that's when you'll enable the Atmos spatial audio settings on your AirPods to take advantage of that. This Logic Atmos binaural renderer is doing all that work for you, and you don't want to double up. One note here, if you're planning to use Atmos qualified consumer gear, like AirPod Pros, when you mix in Logic, you'll want the spatial audio and Atmos modes turned off when you're working. Most of us don't have that and we'll be in the binaural mode. That means seven speakers, one low frequency effect subwoofer, and four height channels. Or if you have a fully Dolby Atmos certified room, you could probably use a 7.1.4 system. Now, if you happen to have a multi-channel system, you can always open this up and play it through your 5.1 system, your 7.1 system. This binaural down mix uses a psychoacoustic rendering, based on human hearing, to fold down the 3D audio from your Atmos mix into your headphones. See where it says monitoring format, you want this set to binaural, and you want to mix on headphones so you can hear the spatialized audio as you work. But for those of you with stereo only systems, which is probably the majority of you, you'll want to be monitoring over headphones, using something called the binaural down mix. I'll show you how to get here in the next movie. This is the plugin that's part of the new 10.7 workflow. Now I'm jumping ahead here to the Atmos renderer. Outside of that, your speaker monitoring that you use when you mix in Dolby Atmos is totally up to you. And you can just update it in the App Store. But you do have to have at least macOS 11 Big Sur or later installed to use Logic Pro 10.7. This is a free update to existing Logic Pro X owners, which is totally amazing. So what do you need in your own studio or home workspace to make your own Dolby Atmos mixes? Well first, you'll need to update to Logic Pro 10.7 to get the Atmos tools. ![]()
